New features launched: save searches & thumbs up/down on comments

If you haven’t noticed already, we’ve introduced two new features on the Warrior Gateway Directory:

1) The ability to save searches: we figure you might be searching for the same types of organizations multiple times. So we added the ability to save a search on the Directory. For example, if I search for ‘homeless’ near ‘Houston, TX,’ directly to the right of the search bar I can click  ‘Save This Search’…

…and the search will now be saved on the left side of the screen, under the ‘Filters.’

Any filters you had set when you clicked ‘Save Search’ (e.g., ‘distance: less than 5 mi,’ or ‘rating: 4 stars’) will be saved into the search as well. Please note that you can only save searches if you are logged in.

2) The ability to give a review a thumbs-up or thumbs-down: you can now mark any review left about an organization by another user with a thumbs-up or thumbs-down, as a measure of whether the  review is useful to you. A green thumbs-up and a red thumbs-down appear on the right side of every comment. You simply click on one or the other and your thumbs-up/down ‘vote’ is instantly recorded.

We will eventually use the total number of thumbs-up and -down to measure the effectiveness of comments, allowing us to display the most effective comments at the top. So, when you see a comment, please take a few seconds to read it and mark with a thumbs-up or thumbs-down — your feedback will help the most useful comments ‘float to the top’!

Try out these features and, as always, we would love to hear what you think about them.

Are you a service provider with multiple locations? You can help us grow the Warrior Gateway Directory

We want service providers of all sizes and capacities to be included in the Warrior Gateway Directory, from the one-person shop to the big national organizations with thousands of branches or facilities.

If you are a large organization with multiple branches, we need your help to ensure that all of your branches are listed in the Directory. Here’s what we’d like you to do:

1) Submit to us a spreadsheet containing basic information for all your locations. The best place to get easy access to such a spreadsheet is probably the IT department at your national office. To make things easy for you, we have created a blank template spreadsheet that you can use to input data. It contains columns for the data fields we’d like to input onto the Directory; you don’t have to list all pieces of information, but the more the better. Please note though that column headers with an asterisk (*) are required fields.

2) Tell all your branches about the Warrior Gateway! Explain to them the benefits of the Warrior Gateway and request that each branch claim its profile. Once they sign up for an account and claim their profile, they can verify or add to the information we have listed for them and interact with users who leave ratings and reviews about them. Each branch could also start telling its clients that they are listed on the Warrior Gateway, and request that clients leave ratings and reviews about their experiences at that branch. If you would like us to help in crafting a message to pass along to all your branches, we’d be happy to! Just let us know.

And that’s about all! We thank you in advance for your help — a small effort on your part will go a very long way in making sure that users in the military community will be able to access your organization’s info quickly and easily.

Please rate organizations in the Warrior Gateway Directory

One of the unique features of the Warrior Gateway is our functionality for ratings and reviews. While there are many ‘resource finders’ out there that allow you to find service providers, we aim to allow you to find the best service providers, based on feedback left by other users.

We just launched our Directory two weeks ago, so currently there aren’t a whole lot of ratings and reviews in the Directory. But we’d like to change that– with your help. If you have ever used a service provider (non-profits, government programs, or for-profits like clinics), please look it up on the Warrior Gateway Directory and leave a rating and a review on the organization’s profile page. If you can’t find the organization, that means we probably don’t have it listed yet. If so, please consider adding the organization to the Directory.

Providing ratings/reviews enriches the Warrior Gateway– it allows others in your community to learn from your experiences and make educated decisions about which organizations to go to, and it also provides useful feedback to those organizations, pointing out things to them they are doing well and things they could improve on.

Let your voice be heard– leave feedback on the Warrior Gateway!

We’ve launched!

In case you missed it, yesterday was our big launch to the public–that’s right, you no longer have to be invited or log in to access the Warrior Gateway Directory! We were too busy putting the site up yesterday to blog about it, but everything is now up and running. Try the new Warrior Gateway out!

We’ll be blogging a series of posts this week explaining in detail how to use the various features of the Warrior Gateway–keep your eyes peeled.

See you on the Gateway!

How to use the Warrior Gateway, Part II: Adding your organization

Adding an organization to the Warrior Gateway is easy. If you work for a service provider (like a non-profit, governmental program, or for-profit like a clinic)–or if you just know about a great service provider that you don’t work for–we encourage you to add a listing for it in the Warrior Gateway Directory.

STEP 1

To do so, go to our Service Provider Registration page, or just click the ‘Add Service Provider’ link on the main Directory page. If you have an account on the Warrior Gateway and are logged in, you will be directed to a form which allows you to enter information about your organization. Skip down to step #6 in this guide.

If you have an account and are logged in, you will see this screen

STEP 2

If you do not yet have an account on the Warrior Gateway, going to the Service Provider Registration page will prompt you to create an account. If you work for the organization which you plan to add, you should select ‘Service Provider’ under the ‘Community’ dropdown on the registration form. Then, skip to step #4 in this guide. If you don’t work for the organization you plan to add, continue on to step #3.

If you work for the organization you plan to add, choose 'Service Provider' under 'Community'

If you work for the organization you plan to add, select 'Service Provider' under 'Community'

STEP 3

If you don’t work for the organization you want to add to the Directory, select whichever community best describes you. Click ‘Register’ and you will be taken to a registration confirmation page. You will be sent a confirmation email, which will provide a link that you can click to confirm the email with which your registered your account. Once you do so you can sign in, then skip back up to step #1 in this guide.

If you don't work for the organization you are adding, select whichever category best describes you under 'Community'

You will receive an email confirming your email address. Click the link in the email

STEP 4

Next you will be taken to the ‘Service Provider Look-up’ page. This will allow you to search for the organization you want to add to make sure it’s not already in the Directory. Enter the organization’s name in the search box at the bottom and click the ‘Search’ button. Organizations currently in the Directory which match your search will be listed.

Enter your organization's name to see if it is already listed in the Warrior Gateway Directory

STEP 5

If your organization is listed in the search results, click on the ‘This is my Business’ link next to the organization’s name–this will allow you to ‘claim’ the profile of your organization, giving you the ability to edit information about your organization in its listing. If your organization is not listed in the search results, click on the ‘Register your Organization on the Warrior Gateway’ link below. This will bring up a form which allows you to enter information about your organization.

From the search results provided: 'claim' your organization if it's listed; if it's not, you'll create a profile for it on the next screen

STEP 6

Fill in as much information as you can, and note that responses with an asterisk are required. You can click the tabs at the top (“Basic Information,” “Eligibility,” and “Organization Information”) to enter in more details in those categories.
