It’s easy to get caught up in the trappings of the 4th of July – the fireworks, the cookouts, the glorious three-day weekend.  But sometimes, the true meaning of the holiday gets lost in the transition from backyard barbeque to pool party.  Sometimes we forget those who made it possible for us to celebrate in the first place.

New Jersey assemblyman calls for county-level VA offices

Citing difficulties in coordinating the efforts of various agencies offering services to veterans, Assemblyman Patrick J. Diegnan Jr. (D-South Plainfield) is calling for the creation of a veterans service office in each of New Jersey’s 21 counties. These offices would primarily play a guidance role, providing information and advice to veterans in such issues as filing claims, education, counseling, and social services. To this end, Diegnan has introduced bill A-3941 into the New Jersey State Assembly.

“Many agencies do a great job of providing access to veterans services, but we need to ensure all of these efforts are coordinated,” said Assemblyman Patrick J. Diegnan Jr., D-South Plainfield. “Our veterans have provided us with the best of themselves and they deserve the best organization and care that we can give.”
